Leather Clutch Bag W/Wrist Strap - Our Country Design
This leather clutch bag with wrist strap is a cross cultural project, designed in Australia and handmade in Kashmir.
The design is applied to the leather by Kashida, one of the oldest Kashmiri handicrafts. It is applied to the leather by hand with the help of a small "aari" hand tool similar to a crochet hook. The clutch bag contains bright satin lining, with a small zipper pocket inside for smaller items, and a wrist strap to leave you hands free.
This design is owned by Betty Pula Morton, an artist of Ampilatwatja.
The community of Ampilatwatja made a conscious decision not to paint 'altyerr' dreaming stories, keeping them private. The artists paint their country where those stories sit. This detailed work shows the layered landscape of Alyawarr, Central Australia. Plants depicted are important for food and medicine.
