Velvet Clutch Bag W/Wrist Strap - Watyia Tjuta Tree Design
This velvet clutch bag with wrist strap is a cross cultural project, designed in Australia and handmade in Kashmir.
The design is applied to the velvet by Kashida, one of the oldest Kashmiri handicrafts. It is applied to the velvet by hand with the help of a small "aari" hand tool similar to a crochet hook. The clutch bag contains bright satin lining, with a small zipper pocket inside for smaller items, and a wrist strap to leave you hands free.
This design is owned by Mitjili Napurrula.
Mitjili paints the watiya tjuta tree. Mitjili's style is unique and recognisable. She paints her father's country at uwalki. Her mother, Tjunkayi Napaltjarri taught her these motifs when story telling, using the same to draw the story as it is told in the traditional way.
