Father's Day
Did you know that male Emus offer high quality paternal care?
Following the preparation of a nest full of 5 - 15 eggs, the mother will leave and continue on to breed elsewhere.
The father will stay and care for these eggs over the next two months, incubating the eggs and rarely leaving for food, water, or even to use the bathroom! He can lose up to 8kg during this time, and once the chicks are born he will stay with them for about two years; caring for them, protecting them, and teaching them how to forage and survive on their own. Go Papa Emu!!
